A message from the President

Get involved in NMPS and attend the Annual Conference

The conference will be here before you know it ….March 12th & 13th.  If you haven’t already sent in your conference registration, please do so.  As you know the conference is being held at the Marriott Pyramid North again this year.  The NMSU student chapter has scheduled their golf tournament on Thursday at the Arroyo del Oso golf course.  You may contact Randy Horn with the student chapter (505) 270-3413 for additional information.

Last year we held a casino night on Thursday before the opening of the conference and in the past we have also held a banquet on Friday evening.  For this year I have decided not to hold a Thursday night event or the Friday night banquet.  Instead at the end of the day on Friday we will have a social hour (or two) for all to gather, relax, get reacquainted with old friends, and hopefully meet some new ones.  With the down economy I feel that we could all benefit by sharing our experiences, stories and ideas for getting through these slow times while having a little fun doing so.  This year’s conference theme is “Life Long Learning”.  As professionals we should hold ourselves responsible for keeping up with ever - changing technology, surveying methods and practices.  I hope the various presentations scheduled for the conference will do just that.  These changes should also help us save some money on conference expenses.

On another note, the Board of Directors met on February 13th at the offices of Bohannan Huston in Albuquerque. On behalf of NMPS I would like to thank Bohannan Huston for their continued hospitality; the meeting was informative and we managed to accomplish all I had hoped.  I would like to thank the members who have volunteered to work on the various committees within NMPS.  I look forward to working with each of the Board members so that we may represent our membership in the best way possible.

I believe this is my 12th year of sitting on the Board in one capacity or another.  There are numerous other individuals who have served on the board for many years and I know they have enjoyed doing so, just as I have.  In the coming years there needs to be an influx of young individuals willing to step up and guide NMPS into the future.  Please think about this; discuss with your chapter the future of NMPS and whether you are happy with the direction NMPS is currently heading.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Gary Eidson, PS

2010 President NMPS
